A tourbillon (French for "whirlwind") is a centuries-old mechanism built inside some of the world's most expensive watches. Today, collectors consider tourbillon watches works of fine art. Tourbillon watches' complex design, combined with their limited production, contributes to their exclusivity and high price tags. On the lower end, you may find some entry-level tourbillon watches for $30,000. However, most tourbillon watches from reputable brands range from $100,000 to several million dollars.

Now, the window is opening on orders for the components that will go into the construction, he added. One of those exchange-traded funds is TCW Transform Supply Chain ETF (SUPP), a play on the reshoring theme. "[Yet] in just [the past] six months, we've added about $300 billion of orders for mega projects," he added. "The United States is experiencing a once-in-a-generation onshoring boom," the company said during its Oct. 27 conference call. Another top holding is Martin Marietta Materials , which produces the aggregates used for construction projects.

Fish maw — the swim bladder of a fish — is one of the most expensive dried-seafood products in the world. But the main reason fish maw is so desired is its supposed medical value. Fish maw is also often recommended in China for postpartum recovery and to reduce post-surgery pain. But because of overfishing in East Asia, China now imports the majority of its bladders from other countries, like Uganda. In Uganda, fishers compete for Nile perch in Lake Victoria and ship them to China for extremely high prices.

For over 200 years, tailors have been crafting high-end bespoke suits on London's famous Savile Row. A custom-made two-piece suit can cost £6,000. And while a tailor's tools are simple, the skills needed to turn a paper pattern into a pressed suit take years to master. We followed Kathryn Sargent, the first female master tailor on Savile Row, to find out how she crafts a bespoke suit — and to learn what makes Savile Row suits so expensive.

Why white asparagus is so expensive
  + stars: | 2023-08-07 | by ( Chris Snyder | ) www.businessinsider.com   time to read: 1 min
White asparagus, often referred to as "white gold," can cost three times as much as green asparagus. During this brief period, farms in the area and restaurants around the world offer white-asparagus dishes on their menus. Chef Erwin Schröttner from Cafe Katja in New York City says white asparagus is much juicier than the green variety, and he serves his stalks freshly peeled, boiled, and smothered in hollandaise sauce with various side dishes. But because white asparagus has to be grown in a specialized way that keeps the stalk underground for longer periods of time, these meals come at a premium. Farms like Jakobs-Hof in Beelitz, Germany, work around the clock to make sure their asparagus stalks maintain their pure white color and are of the highest quality.

Foreign direct investment is also picking up. That investment is on top of the reshoring boom that is already underway , as U.S. companies return operations back home, partly to ensure the safety of supply chains. More than 101,000 jobs were created by reshoring and foreign direct investment in the first quarter alone, up 11% year over year, according to the Reshoring Initiative . While Eaton is Snyder's top pick on the reshoring theme, he highlighted several other underappreciated names that stand to gain as well. Overall, auto reshoring announcements grew 30% in the second half of 2022 from the year prior, according to UBS.

The reshoring trend is bringing manufacturing back into the U.S., putting the need for robots and automation at the forefront of the building boom. But with a tight labor market, companies are incorporating more automation and robotics into these brand new factories. Another robotics company Daryanani picked was Azenta . Sakraida said it could see upside as it gradually exposes itself more to the reshoring trend. It's working toward becoming a pure-play automation company," Sakraida said.

This earnings season there was a lot of chatter about reshoring — and for UBS, Eaton stands out as the winner of the trend. Government incentives and supply chain security are among the reasons corporate America is jumping on board the booming reshoring trend , which means returning operations to companies' original country from overseas. Reshoring mentions were up 104% year over year during the latest round of earning reports, Bank of America wrote in a note Monday. "They have the broadest set of touchpoints throughout the reshoring process," UBS analyst Chris Snyder said. The U.S. reshoring projects announced so far should drive 3% to 6% market growth for the nation's electrical market over the next five to seven years, essentially doubling its previous growth, Snyder calculated.
A lot has been said about reshoring, as companies look to bring manufacturing back to their home countries, particularly the U.S. Reshoring is essentially companies returning operations to their original country from overseas. "The reshoring craze is real, especially as you continue to hear more and more about this general theme of deglobalization," he said. "They sell into the construction of the factory, they sell into the equipment of the factory, the automation of the factory." The company's equipment is needed for big semiconductor manufacturing plants as companies test chips as they are produced, Snyder said.
The hashtag went viral in 2017, but Tarana Burke first started the movement back in 2006. Tarana Burke: My name is Tarana Burke, and I'm the founder of the #MeToo movement. #MeToo is a movement that was founded in 2006 to support survivors of sexual violence, in particular black and brown girls, who were in the program that we were running. We were encountering numbers of girls who were disclosing sexual violence. And sometimes they didn't even know that it was sexual violence.
UBS is betting that Symbotic, a little known supply chain automation company, can benefit as more companies adopt its technology to mitigate labor and inflation pressures. Analyst Chris Snyder initiated coverage of Symbotic on Monday with buy rating and a price target of $17. "This already attractive growth market [automation] has been accelerated by the pandemic & heightened focus on building resiliency." Supply chain issues have also contributed to inflationary pressures seen around the globe. Because of this, Snyder thinks more companies will increase automation efforts, thus boosting Symbotic's business and stock.
The reshoring trend – or companies shifting parts of their manufacturing and supply chains to different countries – has boomed over the last decade. In 2022, reshoring and foreign direct investment jobs announced coming back to the U.S. is on pace hit a record high of 348,493, according to data from the Reshoring Initiative. The trend also includes companies moving parts of their supply chains or manufacturing to different countries abroad. Investing the trend There are a few ways to play the reshoring trend as it continues to unfold. Analysts covering the space generally recommend picking up stocks in companies that stand to benefit from the trend, as opposed to companies in the reshoring process.
